Traditional Paella is a flavorful and hearty seafood dish that is especially popular in coastal cities around the world. Known for its rich taste and vibrant colors, this classic dish has become a favorite in many households.

Packed with phosphorus, proteins, essential vitamins, and minerals, Paella not only satisfies the taste buds but also provides a generous source of energy due to its healthy caloric content. For all these reasons, it’s a staple dish frequently prepared by home cooks, especially in Mediterranean kitchens.

Ingredients (Serves 8):

Traditional Paella

For the Herb Mixture:

  • 1 cup chopped parsley

  • ¼ cup lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

For the Paella:

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 teaspoon saffron

  • 500 ml chicken broth

  • 8 shrimp

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

  • 1 cup chopped onion

  • 1 cup diced red bell pepper

  • 1 cup diced tomato

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • 3 cups rice

  • 1 cup thawed frozen peas

  • 8 cooked and cleaned mussels

  • 200 grams cooked octopus, cut into medium-sized pieces

  • 200 grams cooked clams, chopped

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions:

Start by preparing the herb mixture. In a bowl, combine parsley and garlic. Add olive oil and lemon juice, mix well, and set aside.

Next, prepare the broth by heating the chicken stock with the saffron in a separate saucepan over low heat to infuse the flavors.

In a large skillet or paella pan, heat olive oil and lightly sauté the shrimp until just pink. Remove and set aside.

In the same pan, sauté the onions and red bell pepper until soft. Add the tomatoes and garlic, stirring until well blended. Then add the rice and stir continuously until the grains are coated and lightly toasted.

Add the prepared herb mixture, the saffron-infused chicken broth, and the seafood (clams, octopus, mussels). Season with salt and pepper. Stir gently to mix the ingredients evenly.

Place the shrimp on top of the rice mixture. Cover and let the paella simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes.

Once done, drizzle some lemon juice over the top, remove from heat, and cover again for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to settle.

Serve hot in wide, shallow dishes so everyone can enjoy the full variety of seafood and rice in every bite. This traditional paella is a nourishing, festive meal that brings the joy of the sea right to your table.
