Cheesecake – Recipe

Cheesecake is a popular and widely loved dessert with Greek origins. It can be prepared in various ways, depending on the country and ingredients used, but the American version remains the most popular and commonly made.

This dessert is not only delicious but also nutritious, thanks to its high-value ingredients such as butter, milk, and eggs. It’s easy to prepare, budget-friendly, and perfect for serving to family and guests.

This recipe serves 6 people.


Ingredients

Cheesecake

 

For the cake:

  • 3 cups sifted flour

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest

  • ½ cup shredded coconut (coarse)

  • ½ cup finely grated coconut

  • 1½ cups softened butter

  • 200 g cream cheese, softened

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tablespoon liquid vanilla extract

For the topping:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon powdered milk


Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the sifted flour, salt, baking powder, lemon zest, and the finely grated coconut using your fingertips.

  2. In another large bowl, beat the butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer at medium speed until fluffy.

  3. Add the sugar and vanilla, and beat for 2 minutes until the mixture becomes light in color.

  4. Gradually add the eggs, mixing continuously until fully incorporated.

  5. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and beat until just combined and smooth.

  6. Grease a Pyrex baking dish with oil using a brush, dust with flour, and tap to coat evenly. Pour the batter into the dish.

  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake on the middle rack for 1 hour, checking doneness with a toothpick.

  8. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool completely.

For the topping:

  1. In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar and vanilla. Gradually add powdered milk while stirring with a fork until you get a thick, smooth icing.

  2. Spread the icing over the cooled cake evenly.

  3. Refrigerate for 30 minutes until set, then slice into even portions and serve.
