Chocolate-Filled Biscuits – Recipe

Chocolate-Filled Biscuits – Recipe

Chocolate-filled biscuits are one of the easiest homemade treats and a family favorite—especially loved by children.

This recipe serves about 10 to 15 people. However, it’s best to enjoy them in moderation since they’re rich in calories.

Ingredients for the Biscuit Dough:

Chocolate-Filled Biscuits

  • 3 cups flour + ⅓ cup extra if needed (about 500 g)

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 100 g softened butter at room temperature (a little less than ½ cup, about 1 tbsp less)

  • 2 medium eggs at room temperature

  • ¼ cup sifted powdered sugar (about 50 g)

  • ½ cup fine granulated sugar (about 130 g)

  • 1 tablespoon molasses (dark treacle)

  • 4 tablespoons oil (about 30 g)

  • 4 tablespoons liquid milk (about 30 g)

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla (about 2 g)

  • ½ teaspoon yeast (about 2 g)

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder (about 2 g)

For the Chocolate Ganache Filling:

  • 100 g cream

  • 250 g finely chopped or grated chocolate

For Coating/Decoration:

  • 500 g plain (baking) chocolate, melted in a hot water bath

How to Prepare the Chocolate-Filled Biscuits:

  1. Using an electric mixer, beat the butter with the granulated sugar until creamy. Add the molasses and continue mixing until smooth.

  2. Add the oil, then the powdered sugar. Mix well. Add one egg, beat, then add the second egg, mixing until incorporated.

  3. Warm the milk slightly and mix it with a teaspoon of sugar and the yeast. Stir well, cover, and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

  4. In the meantime, sift together 2 cups of flour with the baking powder, then add this to the butter mixture and blend well.

  5. Add the yeast-milk mixture, mix, then gradually add the remaining flour until a slightly soft dough forms.

  6. Place the dough in a bowl, cover, and let it rest for 15–30 minutes.

  7. Roll the dough thinly between two sheets of plastic wrap. Cut into circles and place them on a greased or lined baking sheet.

  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C (340°F), bottom heat only, for 7 minutes until the bottoms turn golden. Then switch to top heat only for about 2 minutes.

  9. Remove from the oven, place the biscuits on a wire rack, and allow them to cool completely.

How to Make the Ganache Filling:

  1. Heat the cream until just boiling, then pour it over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for a few seconds, then stir until smooth.

  2. If the chocolate doesn’t melt completely, place the mixture over a hot water bath and stir until silky and lump-free.

  3. Let the ganache cool fully. Spread a layer onto one biscuit and sandwich with another.

How to Prepare the Chocolate Coating:

  1. Melt the plain chocolate in a hot water bath. Allow it to cool slightly to room temperature.

  2. Dip each filled biscuit into the melted chocolate, then place it on a wire rack so the coating spreads evenly.

  3. Arrange the biscuits on a tray lined with parchment or plastic, then refrigerate until firm.

Remove, serve beautifully on a platter, and enjoy their rich, indulgent taste.

Bon appétit!
