Chocolate Samosa – Recipe & Cooking Method

Chocolate samosa is one of the most delightful and popular desserts across the Arab world. It is known for its rich flavor and delicious taste.

This pastry is called by different names such as sambousek or sambusa. Traditionally, samosas are filled with meat or vegetables, but over time sweeter variations appeared—like chocolate-filled samosas—that have become especially popular.

Samosas are a staple during the month of Ramadan, particularly the savory meat-filled kind. Historically, this dish is believed to have originated in Persia. Some sources attribute it to Turkey, while others to Yemen, but the Persian origin of the word indicates its first appearance in Persia before spreading to Turkey, Yemen, and eventually the rest of the region.

Nutritionally, samosas are quite rich. Each piece contains approximately 75 calories, 4 g of fat, 1 g of saturated fat, 7 mg of cholesterol, and 6 g of carbohydrates. Beyond the numbers, this treat is known for its heart-friendly qualities, its role in promoting better blood circulation, and even its mood-boosting effects that bring joy and delight to those who enjoy it.

Ingredients (for 5 servings):

Chocolate Samosa

  • 1 cup chocolate halva (tahini-based sweet)

  • 10 sheets of samosa pastry

  • ¼ cup vegetable oil

  • ¼ cup milk

  • 1 cup Hershey’s chocolate

  • 1 cup Hershey’s Cookies & Cream chocolate bars

  • ½ cup crushed pistachios (for garnish)

Preparation Method:

  1. Place a cube of chocolate halva at one edge of a samosa pastry sheet. Roll the sheet into a triangular samosa shape. Seal the final edge with a little milk to ensure it sticks firmly.

  2. Repeat with the remaining pastry sheets. Arrange them on a baking tray and bake until golden brown.

  3. Break the Hershey’s chocolate bars into pieces and melt them gently in a double boiler (water bath).

  4. Grate the Cookies & Cream chocolate into fine shreds.

  5. Prepare three bowls: one with the melted chocolate, one with the grated chocolate, and one with the crushed pistachios.

  6. Dip each baked samosa first into the melted chocolate, then coat it with grated chocolate, and finally roll it in pistachios.

  7. Place them neatly on a serving plate and enjoy with family or guests.

A crispy golden shell, a creamy chocolate filling, and a nutty pistachio crunch—this dessert is guaranteed to impress.
