Cinnabon – Cinnabon Recipe – How to Make the Famous American Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnabon is one of the most popular American desserts that has recently gained worldwide fame and found its way into kitchens everywhere.

It can be filled with a variety of fillings, such as cinnamon, chocolate, and more. While its flavor is irresistibly delicious, it does take time to prepare. A helpful tip is to make the dough ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use.

However, it’s best not to eat it too frequently, as it’s quite high in calories.

This recipe makes about 15 rolls.

Ingredients for the Dough:

Cinnabon

  • 2 teaspoons warm water

  • 3 tablespoons softened butter

  • 5 tablespoons Dream Whip powder (or similar whipped topping powder)

  • ½ cup warm fresh milk

  • 1 large egg

  • ½ tablespoon sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups + 3 tablespoons flour

  • 1 ½ teaspoons instant yeast

Ingredients for the Filling:

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon

  • 2–3 tablespoons melted butter

Ingredients for the Frosting:

  • 4 pieces of Kiri cheese (or cream cheese squares)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons softened butter

  • 1 tablespoon powdered milk (or more, to taste)

How to Prepare the Cinnabon Rolls:

  1. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water. Meanwhile, melt the butter in the milk over low heat.

  2. In a large bowl, lightly beat the egg, then add the milk-and-butter mixture, followed by the yeast. Mix well.

  3. Add the Dream Whip (or pastry cream powder), salt, and flour. Mix until just combined—do not knead yet. Cover the bowl and let it rest for 15 minutes.

  4. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together in a separate bowl.

  5. After resting, knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and no longer sticky (you may add a little extra flour if necessary).

  6. Cover the dough again and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size. Punch it down to release the air.

  7. Roll it out on a floured surface into a medium-thickness rectangle. Brush generously with melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

  8. Roll it tightly into a log and seal the ends. Slice into about 15 equal pieces using a sharp knife.

  9. Arrange the rolls in a well-buttered rectangular baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and let them rise for 1–1.5 hours, or refrigerate for up to 24 hours. (If refrigerated, bring them back to room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.)

  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the rolls for 15–20 minutes until golden.

  11. Remove from the oven, spread with the prepared frosting, and serve warm.

Enjoy the soft, sweet, and aromatic taste of homemade Cinnabon rolls. Bon appétit!
