Custard Chocolate Bars – Recipe & Cooking Method
Custard chocolate bars are a rich and delicious dessert with Canadian origins. From Canada, this sweet treat spread around the world and became a popular choice everywhere.
These bars are easy to prepare and packed with energy, thanks to their two main stars—chocolate and custard. Chocolate helps improve blood circulation, widens blood vessels, and provides antioxidants that reduce the risk of clots and heart disease. Custard, meanwhile, adds creaminess and nutritional value. However, this dessert is also very high in calories, so it should be eaten in moderation. To give perspective: custard alone contains about 1597 calories, 29 g of fat, 26 g of carbohydrates, 5 g of protein, and 53.21 g of sodium.
Ingredients (Serves 10):
For the Base Layer:
-
½ cup butter
-
¼ cup sugar
-
1 egg
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
2 cups puffed wheat cereal
-
1 cup shredded coconut
-
½ cup roasted almonds, coarsely chopped
For the Custard Filling:
-
¼ cup butter
-
2 tablespoons vanilla-flavored pudding powder
-
2 cups powdered sugar
-
3 tablespoons milk
-
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Topping:
-
100 g milk chocolate, chopped
-
100 g dark chocolate, chopped
Method:
-
Start with the base layer. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter with the sugar and cocoa, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
-
In a small bowl, beat the egg. Remove the saucepan from the heat, then slowly add the egg while stirring. Return the saucepan to low heat and stir continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Add the puffed wheat, shredded coconut, and chopped almonds. Mix until well combined.
-
Press the mixture firmly into a greased baking dish. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
-
Prepare the custard filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the pudding powder, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk, beating until you achieve a smooth, creamy texture.
-
Spread this custard mixture evenly over the chilled base. Return the dish to the refrigerator for another hour.
-
For the topping, melt the milk chocolate and dark chocolate together over a hot water bath, stirring until smooth. Spread this chocolate mixture evenly over the custard layer. Refrigerate again for at least 1 hour until set.
-
Once firm, remove from the fridge, cut into bars, and serve.
Rich, crunchy at the base, creamy in the middle, and topped with silky chocolate—these custard chocolate bars are a true indulgence for family and guests alike.
Enjoy! 🍫✨
