French Toast with Chocolate, Banana & Cinnamon – Recipe & Preparation

French toast with chocolate, banana, and cinnamon is a classic French-inspired dessert known for its delicious flavor and easy preparation.

This dish is also called egg bread or gypsy bread and has become popular worldwide. Its origins date back to the 4th century AD, when bread was soaked in milk before being cooked.

In 2011, CNN ranked French toast 38th on its list of the Top 50 Foods in the World. In France, Belgium, New Orleans, Acadia, and Congo, it is often referred to as pain perdu (“lost bread”).

Aside from its great taste, this dessert offers several health benefits. Thanks to its fiber content, it aids digestion, supports heart health, and provides energy. Nutritionally, 100 g of French toast contains about 229 calories, 25 g sugar, 8 g protein, and 116 mg cholesterol.

  • 6 slices of French bread (toast)

  • ½ cup cinnamon-flavored chocolate chips

  • 1 teaspoon butter

  • 3 tablespoons hot water

  • 1 banana, sliced

  • 2 eggs

  • ¼ cup milk

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 tablespoons butter (for frying)

Preparation Method:

  1. Melt the cinnamon-flavored chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of butter, then add the hot water. Stir until smooth and set aside.

  2. Spread a spoonful of the chocolate mixture on each slice of bread, place 4 banana slices on top, and cover with another slice of bread to form a sandwich.

  3. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla until blended. Strain the mixture into another bowl.

  4. Dip each chocolate-banana sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.

  5. Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet. Cut each sandwich into smaller pieces if desired, then cook until golden brown on both sides.
