Meat Lasagna – Recipe

Meat lasagna is a classic Italian dish made up of thin layers of pasta stacked with savory fillings.

It is loved for its rich flavor and beautiful presentation. Lasagna comes in many varieties, including meat-based, vegetarian, and more.

This dish is very high in calories and fat, so it’s best enjoyed in moderation.


Ingredients:

Meat Lasagna

 

For the lasagna:

  • 300 g lasagna sheets

For the meat mixture:

  • 2 tbsp corn oil

  • 500 g ground beef

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped

  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed

  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

  • 2 tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup chopped basil leaves

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 400 g mushrooms, sliced

For the béchamel sauce:

  • 6 tbsp butter

  • ½ cup flour

  • 6 cups fresh milk

  • 2 bay leaves

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 cup grated mozzarella

  • 1 cup grated cheddar


Preparation Method:

  1. Heat the oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring with a wooden spoon, until the liquid evaporates and the meat turns brown.

  2. Add the onion, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir until the onion softens.

  3. Add the water and chopped basil. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Set aside.

  4. In a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring, until softened and dry. Set aside.

  5. To make the béchamel sauce: melt the butter in a medium pot, then stir in the flour and cook briefly until lightly toasted. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the mixture boils and thickens into a light sauce. Remove bay leaves.

  6. Preheat the oven to 170°C (340°F). Grease a baking dish (Pyrex). Spread a thin layer of béchamel on the bottom, then arrange lasagna sheets to cover.

  7. Spread some of the meat mixture, add mushrooms, then sprinkle Parmesan, mozzarella, and cheddar. Spread more béchamel on top.

  8. Repeat layering with lasagna sheets, meat, mushrooms, cheese, and béchamel, finishing with a final layer of béchamel topped generously with cheese.

  9. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  10. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
