Date Jam – Recipe and Preparation Method

Date jam is one of the most delicious types of jams, often enjoyed especially during the winter months thanks to the many benefits it provides. Dates belong to the palm family and are considered one of the most valuable fruits for human health.

Dates are rich in carbohydrates, natural sugars, fats, fibers, and small amounts of vitamins. They offer several health benefits: they soften the stomach and intestines, helping to prevent constipation; they reduce the risk of strokes, heart disease, and arteriosclerosis; they are an effective remedy for alcohol poisoning; they help treat anemia; and they protect gums and teeth by reducing tooth decay.

Dates also provide the body with warmth and energy, which makes date jam a particularly popular winter food.

Ingredients for Date Jam

  • 1 kilogram of dates

  • ¼ cup of sugar

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Method of Preparation

  1. Wash the dates thoroughly, remove the pits, and cut them into coarse pieces.

  2. Place the dates and sugar in a bowl and leave them for about half a day to allow the sugar to dissolve.

  3. Transfer the mixture to a pot and cook over low heat, stirring continuously until it begins to boil.

  4. Once it reaches boiling point, add the lemon juice and cinnamon sticks. Continue cooking over low heat, skimming off any foam that forms.

  5. Stir for about 10 minutes until the mixture thickens and reaches a jam-like consistency. Remove from the heat and let it cool.

  6. Blend the mixture in a food processor to achieve a smoother texture.

  7. Pour the jam into thoroughly dry, airtight glass jars. Store in the refrigerator until serving.

This jam can be enjoyed on its own or used in making a variety of desserts such as date cakes or date balls. However, it should be consumed in moderation due to its high sugar content.
