Fig Jam – Recipe and Preparation Method

Fig jam is one of the most beloved jams, a staple on breakfast and dinner tables. It enjoys huge popularity, and only very few people don’t favor it.

This jam is packed with health benefits thanks to the wide variety of nutrients it contains. Figs themselves are considered highly valuable for human health—and their importance is emphasized by their mention in the Qur’an, a sign of their great benefit.

Both figs and fig jam provide many advantages. They help regulate blood pressure and prevent hypertension, which in turn lowers the risk of strokes and heart disease. Because figs are rich in fiber, they aid in weight loss and increase feelings of fullness.

For women, figs help reduce the risk of breast cancer due to their fiber content and antioxidants. They are also high in calcium, which supports bone growth, strengthens bones, and prevents osteoporosis.

Fig jam also improves digestion by relieving digestive disorders, treating constipation, and regulating bowel movements. Additionally, it protects against diabetes, gout, kidney stones, and arthritis.

It is a particularly valuable food for athletes, pregnant women, and individuals suffering from anemia.

Ingredients for Fig Jam (Serves 5)

Fig Jam

  • One kilogram of figs

  • Half a kilogram of sugar

  • One teaspoon of lemon juice

Method of Preparation

  1. First, prepare the syrup by mixing the sugar with two cups of water in a pot. Place over heat until it boils and thickens into a syrup.

  2. Wash the figs well, then add them to the syrup. Lower the heat and stir gently to avoid crushing the figs.

  3. Skim off any foam that forms on the surface, then add the lemon juice. Continue simmering until the figs take on a honey-like golden color. Once they reach this stage, leave them on the heat for another 5 minutes.

  4. Remove the pot from the stove and allow the jam to cool.

  5. When completely cooled, transfer the jam into clean, dry glass jars. Store in the refrigerator and serve at breakfast to let the family enjoy its rich, delightful taste.
