Guava jam is one of the most delicious and popular types of jams, a frequent guest on breakfast and dinner tables for many families. Mothers often prepare sandwiches with it so that children can take them to school.
Guava itself is among the most widespread fruits worldwide, and it is commonly used to make jams and juices.
This fruit has countless benefits. It contains a good amount of natural sugars and aids digestion. It also helps protect the body from diseases and boosts the immune system. In addition, guava is rich in minerals such as calcium, sodium, and potassium.
It plays an important role in treating scurvy, as eating it regularly for three months is enough to cure this condition. Guava is also consumed heavily during the winter season, since it helps protect against colds and flu thanks to its fats, proteins, minerals, and vitamins that act as a first line of defense for the body against germs and illnesses.
Ingredients for Guava Jam
-
One kilogram of guava
-
Half a kilogram of sugar
-
Two tablespoons of lemon juice
Note: You can increase the amount of guava as you wish, as long as the sugar equals half the amount of guava.
Method of Preparation
-
Start by washing and cleaning the guavas thoroughly. Cut each fruit into two halves and remove the seeds.
-
Place the cut guavas in a deep pot, cover them with water, and cook over medium heat until they boil and soften. Remove the pot from the heat, drain the water, but keep one cup of it aside. Let the guavas cool.
-
Once cooled, add the sugar and the reserved cup of water to the guavas. Place them on low heat and stir continuously until the sugar completely dissolves.
-
Add the lemon juice and stir for about five minutes on low heat, removing any foam that forms on the surface.
-
When the jam thickens and reaches the desired consistency, turn off the heat and let it cool. Transfer the jam into completely dry glass jars. Store in the refrigerator until serving, where the family can enjoy its wonderful taste.
