Pumpkin Jam – Recipe & Preparation Method
Pumpkin jam is a delicious type of preserve made from pumpkin. For this reason, it is also known as Pumpkin Preserve.
Pumpkin originates from North America, particularly Mexico and the United States, and from there it spread across the world. In the Arab world, Egypt was the first country to cultivate it on a large scale.
Pumpkin and its jam carry many health benefits, as pumpkin is rich in minerals such as copper, iron, beta-carotene, and phosphorus.
It is also a good source of Vitamin D—highly beneficial for the human body—as well as Vitamin E and several essential salts.
Pumpkin jam is considered suitable for weight-loss diets, since it is high in fiber, low in calories, and helps create a feeling of fullness.
Beyond that, pumpkin supports heart health by lowering cholesterol and providing antioxidants that protect against strokes. It is also considered one of the key foods that help fight cancer and reduce the risk of developing it.
Because of its many benefits, pumpkin is widely used in different recipes—not only as jam, but also in soups and other delicious dishes.
Ingredients
-
2 kilograms pumpkin, peeled and cut into equal cubes
-
1.5 kilograms sugar
-
2 cinnamon sticks
-
3 cloves
-
A light pinch of vanilla
Preparation Method
-
Prepare the pumpkin:
Place the pumpkin cubes in a bowl and sprinkle with sugar. Stir well so the sugar coats the pumpkin evenly, then let it rest for about 8 hours. -
Cook with spices:
After resting, you’ll notice the pumpkin has released liquid. Transfer it into a pot, add the cloves and cinnamon sticks, cover, and cook over high heat until it begins to boil. -
Simmer:
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer until the syrup lightens and the pumpkin softens. -
Finish with flavoring:
Just before the pumpkin is fully cooked, add the vanilla and continue cooking until the pumpkin becomes tender. -
Cool and store:
Remove from heat and let it cool in the pot. Once cooled, transfer into completely dry glass jars, seal tightly, and store until ready to serve.
Enjoy its wonderful taste and share it with your family along with all its health benefits.
