Quince Jam – Recipe & Preparation Method
Quince jam is one of the most delicious and flavorful preserves, often served on breakfast and dinner tables. It is also widely used in decorating and preparing desserts.
Quince is a winter fruit, originally from Central and Southwest Asia, and later spread to Europe.
The quince tree can grow between 3 to 5 meters tall. Historically, Persian physicians used this fruit to treat several ailments, including chronic headaches.
Quince offers many health benefits: it soothes digestive disorders, reduces diarrhea, and helps with bloating. It also protects the heart, prevents arteriosclerosis, and reduces allergic reactions.
In addition, it has been linked to kidney cancer prevention, and it helps fight off colds and seasonal flu.
Ingredients
-
1 kilogram quince
-
½ kilogram sugar
-
Water (enough to cover the quince)
-
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Note: You may increase the amount of quince, but always keep the sugar at half the fruit’s weight.
Preparation Method
-
Prepare the fruit:
Wash the quinces thoroughly and dry them well. Peel the fruits, cut them in half, and remove the seeds. Slice each half into thick, long strips. -
Cook the quince:
Place the quince slices in a deep pot. Add enough water to cover the fruit and boil over high heat for about 30 minutes. -
Sweeten:
After 30 minutes, add the sugar and lemon juice. Reduce the heat to low and continue stirring. Keep cooking until the quince turns brown in color. Stir continuously to prevent sticking. -
Thicken:
Allow the mixture to simmer until it develops a thick, jelly-like consistency. Remove the pot from heat and let it cool. -
Store:
Once cooled, transfer the jam into thoroughly dry, sterilized glass jars. Seal tightly and refrigerate until serving.
Enjoy this rich, aromatic jam with your family, savoring both its taste and its health benefits.
