Tomato Sauce – Recipe and Preparation Method

Tomato sauce is one of the most popular condiments used to complement main dishes, adding a rich and delicious flavor. It is especially common with pasta, grilled meats, and many other savory meals.

Although canned tomato sauce is widely available, many people prefer preparing it at home to avoid the harmful effects of preservatives found in ready-made varieties.

This sauce is one of the most common worldwide—not only because of its taste, but also because tomatoes are affordable and available everywhere.

Ingredients (Makes about 10 servings)

Tomato Sauce

  • 5 kg tomatoes

  • 3 onions

  • 4 teaspoons salt

  • 4 teaspoons black pepper

  • 2 tablespoons ghee

  • 4 tablespoons sunflower oil

Preparation Method

  1. Peel and finely chop the onions into uniform small pieces.

  2. Wash the tomatoes, cut them, and place them in a blender. Add just one cup of water with the first batch of tomatoes, then blend the remaining tomatoes without any water. This keeps the sauce from becoming too watery.

  3. Once blended, transfer the tomato puree into a large pot. In the same pot, heat the ghee and sunflower oil with the chopped onions, salt, and black pepper. Sauté until the onions turn a light golden color.

  4. Add the blended tomatoes to the pot, bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then lower the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  5. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens to the desired consistency.

  6. Remove from heat and allow it to cool. Store in glass jars in the refrigerator, or in freezer bags if you plan to freeze it for longer storage.

And just like that, you’ll have homemade tomato sauce ready to use anytime for your favorite dishes.
