Turkish Pie – A Delicious Pastry Recipe
Turkish pie is one of the delicious pastries of Turkish cuisine. It’s considered a wholesome meal since it contains many beneficial nutrients.
The dough is mainly made from flour, salt, sugar, yeast, milk, and oil.
As for the filling, it can vary widely — vegetables, meat, chicken, or different types of cheese can all be used.
Because it’s both filling and nutritious, Turkish pie can be served as a main lunch dish.
Ingredients
Serves 4–5 people
For the dough:
-
2 cups flour
-
2 teaspoons salt
-
2 teaspoons sugar
-
2 teaspoons oil
-
2 teaspoons yeast
-
1 cup milk
For the filling:
-
½ kilogram minced meat or chicken strips
-
1 green pepper
-
1 red pepper
-
1 yellow pepper
-
1 onion, chopped
-
2 tomatoes
-
1 teaspoon black pepper
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
½ cup grated Romy cheese (or any hard cheese)
-
½ cup mozzarella cheese
Preparation Method
1. Preparing the dough:
Place the flour in a bowl. Add the salt, sugar, yeast, milk, and oil. Knead well until the dough becomes smooth and firm. Leave it to rest and rise for a while.
2. Preparing the filling:
In a pan, combine the green, red, and yellow peppers with the onion, tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Add the minced meat or chicken strips (according to preference) and cook until done.
3. Assembling the pie:
Once the dough has risen, divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle, the size of your baking tray.
Grease the tray with oil, then place the first half of the dough inside. Spread the filling evenly on top, then cover with grated Romy and mozzarella cheese.
Place the second half of the dough over the filling, sealing the edges well. Leave to rest for another 30 minutes.
Before baking, brush the top with a beaten egg mixed with a little milk. Sprinkle sesame seeds and black seeds (nigella) on top.
Bake in a hot oven until golden brown and fully cooked.
Enjoy your meal!
