Turkish-Style Baked Potatoes – Recipe & Preparation

Welcome to today’s dish! We’re preparing Turkish-Style Baked Potatoes—a hearty and flavorful side dish with a unique taste thanks to its mix of spices, chicken, and vegetables. This dish is filling, colorful, and versatile, making it perfect for family meals or gatherings.


Ingredients (Serves 4)

Turkish-Style Baked Potatoes

 

  • 5 large potatoes (unpeeled)

  • 4 tbsp olive oil (or vegetable oil)

  • 500 g boneless, skinless chicken fillet

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

  • ½ cup red or green bell pepper, diced

  • ½ cup sweet corn

  • ½ cup mushrooms, sliced

  • A few black olive slices

  • 3 medium onions, sliced

  • 6 tbsp shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 5 tbsp shredded cheddar cheese


Preparation

Step 1 – Bake the potatoes:
Wash the potatoes thoroughly and pat them dry. Place them on a baking tray, drizzle with olive oil, and cover with foil (without touching the potato tops). Bake in a preheated oven at 180–190°C for about 40 minutes, until tender.

Step 2 – Prepare the chicken:
While the potatoes are baking, season the chicken fillets with salt, black pepper, coriander powder, and mixed spices. Mix well and let marinate briefly, then bake for 20 minutes until cooked through. Cut into small cubes.

💡 Tip: Always allow chicken or meat to rest in spices long enough for the flavors to absorb.

Step 3 – Assemble the stuffed potatoes:
Remove the baked potatoes from the oven. Slice each one down the center and gently scoop out some of the flesh. Mix the scooped potato with onions, olives, salt, and spices. Add in the diced chicken pieces.

Stuff each potato with the mixture, then top generously with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Step 4 – Final bake:
Return the stuffed potatoes to the oven for 10 minutes, just until the cheese melts and forms a golden topping.
